Olive oil is a fixture in Greek tradition. Commonly used for cooking, it is also historically used in Greek funerary rituals to anoint bodies before they were buried, hence my use of the word chrism, meaning holy anointing oil, for the title. Each petri dish of Greek olive oil is paired with an image of a family member who has since passed. These are illuminated with vintage 3M overhead projectors, replicating the projection experiences my father and I created when I was a child. I see each dish of oil and image as the final anointing of my family, and my own funerary ritual in a sense.
