Snowbirds explores four generations of family vacations to the beaches of Florida. Repurposed footage from my great-grandfather’s film reels, my grandma’s VHS tapes, my father’s Hi8 tapes, and my digital iPhone recordings, combine in a glitching colorful wonderland evoking memories of the ocean, beachcombing, key lime pie, and the Weeki Wachee mermaids. Snowbirds transports the viewer into a swirl of vacation memories and inherited traditions. Archival film footage seeps into modern day imaging, demonstrating the importance of family traditions and memory making. Snowbirds was commissioned for the Digital Graffiti Residency Artist Program in 2023, and was projection mapped for the May 2023 festival.
